Arts group gets grant for new loading dock at downtown theater
The Alexandria Area Arts Theatre was awarded a $5,234 Legacy grant from the Lakes Region Arts Council.
The grant is for the construction of a loading dock in the back of the theater building. This will allow for loading and unloading of equipment and stage pieces from the alley in the back of the building, instead of through the front doors facing Broadway Street.
This grant brings the theater one step closer to completing the loading dock project. However, the theater must raise an additional $14,000 in 2011 to complete the loading dock.
The theater is already planning several fundraising initiatives.
"We have great local support, and we are confident we'll be able to raise the funds," said Finance and Facilities Director Mary Risner.
The theater plans to begin the project in early 2012.
"We'd like to be able to use the loading dock as soon as possible," Risner said. "This will provide great opportunities to bring in more regional shows for our local Alexandria audience in the near future."
The Lakes Region Arts Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encourage and support the vitality of the arts.
The LRAC accomplishes this through providing grants to community organizations and individual artists in the nine counties of: Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Traverse and Wilkin in west central Minnesota.
