The Minnewaska girls' basketball team came up just short in a 50-45 game against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City last Friday.

The Lakers used 14 points and five rebounds from Sydney Joos to stay close, but it wasn't quite enough. Bayley Pooler and Mady Phillips added nine and eight points, respectively.

The West Central Area girls got two wins last week with a 65-62 victory over Browerville before taking care of Battle Lake in a 40-33 game.

"These wins are great and they are much needed," head coach Beth Hanson said after her team snapped a four-game losing streak. "Our play is improving, yet we are capable of playing better. We will continue to strive to play more disciplined with higher intensity and drive."

Holly Van Kempen led four players in double figures against Browerville with 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Kelsey Hammer added 16 points and six rebounds, while Tiana Christenson and Christina Kruize each had 10 points.

Hammer was the only player in double figures against Battle Lake. She finished with 11 points, while Christenson added nine points, six rebounds and four assists.

Panthers take title

The Parkers Prairie girls have put together another impressive start to the season after moving to 11-0 with a 58-26 win in Battle Lake last Friday.

The Panthers were coming off a 3-0 run through the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Tournament where they beat three winning teams by an average of 14 points per game. Included in that was an 80-60 win over an 8-5 Pequot Lakes team.

Parkers Prairie carried that momentum with them into Battle Lake, where the Panthers took a 41-8 lead into the break. They never looked back from there on their way to a 5-0 record in the Little Eight Conference.

Parkers Prairie had just five players score but three of them finished in double figures. Micaela Noga finished with 21. Madison Dorn added 18 and Ally Taylor poured in 14 to help their cause.

Dorn had the high-point total during the holiday tournament in Walker with a 32-point night against Pequot Lakes. She added a team-high 24 in a 56-47 win over Red Lake Falls and 20 points in a 57-44 win over Frazee.
