Area concert association plans season

The Central Lakes Concert Association (CLCA) is gearing up for its 30th season.

All concerts are held at the Jefferson High School gymnasium in Alexandria.

Season memberships may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling Jan Johnson at (320) 762-1350 or Bernita Darveaux at (320) 763-6248.

With a membership, members may also attend 25 concerts through a reciprocity agreement with Fergus Falls, Sauk Centre, Ortonville/Milbank, Wadena and Brainerd.

Following is this year’s schedule in Alexandria:

Saturday, October 19, 7:30 p.m. – The Abrams Brothers. Playing guitar and violin, the brothers entertain with virtuosic playing and vocal harmonies. They specialize in bluegrass, country and folk music.

Saturday, November 23, 7:30 p.m. – Vocaldente. Since its beginnings in 2004, this a cappella group from Germany has developed into an internationally acclaimed ensemble.

Sunday, February 9, 7:30 p.m. – Thank You for the Music: A Tribute to ABBA. This is a modern tribute to the Swedish pop group, featuring harmonies, dance and the hits of ABBA.

Sunday, March 16, 3 p.m. – California Guitar Trio and Montreal Guitar Trio. Two groups of virtuoso guitarists that usually perform separately perform as one.

Sunday, April 27, 3 p.m. – Ann Duhamel. Pianist. Her playing has been described as “imaginative, artistic, profound and mystical.” She was appointed head of keyboard studies at the University of Minnesota, Morris in 2009.

Friday, May 9, 7:30 p.m. – Golden Dragon Acrobats. Members represent a time-honored tradition that began more than 27 centuries ago, blending costumes, acrobatics and traditional dance.
