Antique train passes through Wadena

An antique steam locomotive passed through Wadena Thursday.

A unique visitor was greeted by curious onlookers in Wadena Thursday morning.

The visitor was a special antique steam train, an SP4449 model built in 1941. The locomotive weighs 433 tons, has 5,500 horsepower and used to pull coaches from Los Angeles to San Francisco until 1955.

The eastbound train is headed to Owosso, Mich., for Train Festival 2009, and passed through Wadena around 10 a.m. Thursday.
