Alzheimer's support group forms

A new support group for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease will start on Tuesday, August 18. It will be held at the Douglas County Library meeting room at 6 p.m.

Alzheimer's affects about 5 million people in the U.S. and of those, 70 percent live at home. Alzheimer's affects memory, perception, cognition, agility and eventually automatic systems of the body.

Those living with or caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's are often unable to discuss the disease with their loved one, and as the disease progresses, they become more isolated.

The new support group has formed in an effort to provide relief, education and support for those struggling with these issues. It is open to all caregivers, not for people with the disease.

The group was started by Jan Ouellette, whose husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's three years ago. For information, call Jan at (612) 716-7083 or e-mail
