Alexandria Y kicks off scholarship drive
The Alexandria Area YMCA kicked off its year-long Strong Kids Campaign on March 10.
The campaign is a scholarship program that subsidizes Y programs and membership for kids and families that may not be able to afford a Y experience.
The Alexandria Area YMCA believes in providing membership and program services to all who desire to participate, regardless of their ability to pay, according to Jeff Batholomew, director.
Scholarships are determined by household income and size, and can cover the bulk of membership and program costs.
More than 30 volunteers will campaign over the next 30 days to raise scholarship funds for families in the Alexandria community.
A goal of $75,000 has been set, and already, less than a week into the campaign, the Y has raised more than $5,000 to help cover the cost of Y membership and programs for kids and families in the Alexandria community.

"Community generosity helps the YMCA make a difference in the community," said Bartholomew.
