Alexandria wrestlers train at camp in Moorhead
The Alexandria wrestling team had the opportunity to work with experienced current and former All American collegiate wrestlers at the Concordia College wrestling camp in Moorhead last June.
A total of 21 wrestlers from the Alexandria area attended the camp ran by Matt Nagel, a five time state high school champion from Frazee and a former All-American from the University of Minnesota. Nagel’s connections with the Gophers allowed him to bring in current and former All-Americans to work with the teams in attendance.
While at the camp, the wrestlers worked on technique training, competed in a dual team championship tournament and participated in a physical endurance competition called the “Iron Man.”
Alexandria went 7-0 in the pool rounds during the team dual competition. Overall, the Cardinals took fourth place in the championships out of 32 teams.
The endurance competition consisted of 10 physical tests that measure the athletes’ strength, endurance and mental toughness. A total of 50 wrestlers were recognized as Iron Men, and six of those were from Alexandria. The Iron Men included Quinton Kluver-Longfellow, Jared Jost, Dustin Neu, Dylan Kriese, Blake Olhausen and Ben Bogart.
Bogart was especially tough in breaking the camp’s record by doing 243 “burpees” in 10 minutes.
