Alexandria woman dies in Garfield crash
A 31-year-old Alexandria woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash near Garfield Thursday night.
Shannon Marie Simonson was one of the drivers and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened at the intersection of Douglas County Road 22 and Pleasant Grove Road, about a half-mile east of Garfield.
The Douglas County Law Enforcement Center received a 911 call about the accident at about 5:45 p.m.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, State Patrol, North Ambulance and Garfield Fire Department and First Responders all responded to the scene.
The other driver, Nicholas Michael Hennen, 36, of Brandon, wasn't injured.
It was initially reported that Simonson was pinned inside the vehicle. When help arrived, CPR was already being administered to Simonson, who later died at the scene.
According to a news release issued by the sheriff's office, the cause of the accident is "intersection related" and is being investigated. No other details about how the crash happened or the direction the vehicles were traveling were available as of Tuesday morning.
Simonson, the daughter of Randy and Dawn Simonson, attended Jefferson High School in Alexandria.
She helped people with chemical dependency and was an aide at senior group homes.
Family members said she lived life to the fullest and was a true caregiver, who loved her three children, Deiven, Alivia and Amelia.
In addition to her children and parents, she is survived by two brothers, Shon Simonson of Brandon and Shane Simonson of Colorado.
Funeral services were held Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
