The Alexandria VFW 15s baseball team improved to 17-5 this season after a 6-2 stretch over a week of games.

Last weekend, the VFW 15s grabbed third place at the Marshall tournament by winning three of the four games it played.

The VFW 15s put the final touches on the tournament with an 11-1 victory over Marshall Orange. The win gave the VFW 15s third place in the tournament.

Reed Larson led the Alexandria offense against Marshall Orange by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Blake Anderson also scored two runs for Alexandria.

Tryg Burgau picked up the win for the VFW 15s on the mound.

The tournament began for Alexandria with a 2-1 loss against Sioux Falls last Friday.

The offense struggled against Sioux Falls as it only picked up four hits. Jake Drew went 1-for-4 and scored the only run of the game in the first inning. Sioux Falls picked up the walk off victory in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The VFW 15s rebounded to pick up two victories on Saturday against Worthington 10-2 and Marshall Blue 10-0.

Micah Christenson went 2-for-2 in the game against Worthington with a double and two runs scored, and Mack Strong went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. Drew also scored two runs in the game.

Alexandria followed that victory with another win on Saturday 10-0 against Marshall Blue.

Conner Hammerback led the Alexandria offense in the game by scoring three runs on three walks. Blake Anderson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Starting pitcher Brock Anderson picked up 12 strikeouts on the mound in the 10-0 victory.

The VFW 15s also won three games in two doubleheaders against Albany and New London earlier in the week.

Alexandria split their doubleheader on the road against Albany on Monday, June 23, winning the first game 9-1 and dropping the second 3-4. Drew pitched a no-hitter in the first game versus Albany, only allowing two base runners to reach on errors and four by walks.

The next day, Alexandria swept a doubleheader against New London by taking the first game 3-0 and following that with a 7-1 win.

The VFW 15s are now 3-1 in league play this summer.
