Brady Bast got the game winner in the third period to break a 2-2 tie. Matt Resch and Christian Canavati assisted on the goal and goaltender Sam Goetsch took care of the rest. Goetsch got the win by turning aside 22 of the 24 shots he faced.

Neither team could create much separation throughout the night in a battle of two teams that were undefeated entering the game. Willmar scored first before Levi McFarlane scored off an assist from Bast in the first period. Resch then made it a 2-1 lead off assists from Alec Wosepka and Ryan Marciniak in the second when Willmar answered right back to send the game into the second intermission tied at two apiece.
