Aaseng's win in the 500 free (4:51.85) was a new CLC record, breaking his own mark, set last year, by three seconds.

The Cardinals had 13 top-eight finishes in the meet, including the two by Aaseng. Max Jacobson, Aaron Pietrowski and Eric Moe also had two apiece.

In all, the Cards had 16 season bests, with Aaseng and Pietrowski setting two each. Asseng, Pietrowski, Moe and Elliot Jacobson all earned Central Lakes All-Conference honors for their performances, with M. Jacobson and Mark Kallevig earning honorable mention.

"The Cards had a very good day with several outstanding performances," said head coach Mark Storhaug. "Pietrowski was 2.5 seconds faster in the 200 free, dropping under the two minute barrier for the first time. He was four seconds better in the 500 free as well."

"Sean Norheim was 1.6 seconds better in the 100 fly, while Luke Houska shaved two seconds in the 100 free, swimming under the one minute mark for the first time ever.

"Ben Tollefson had a great swim in the 500 free, slicing eight seconds," he said. "Kyle Blank had a personal best in the 100 backstroke, dropping below 1:10."

Points earned for wins in the regular season, plus a team's position in the championship meet, combine to determine overall CLC standings. Sartell and Brainerd tied for the title, while Alexandria and St. Cloud Tech tied for third.

The Cardinals will now head to Bemidji for the Section 5A meet in two weeks.
