The Cardinals jumped out early with Ryan Marciniak scoring just a minute into the game. Marciniak scored again at 13:20 and Matt Resch also netted a goal at the end of the first to give Alexandria a 3-0 lead.

Brady Bast scored in the second period as did Jack Steffl with 10 seconds left in the game to give the Cardinals' a 5-0 conference victory over Fergus Falls.

Alexandria held the offensive zone for most of the game, outshooting Fergus Falls 42-10. After the game, head coach Ian Resch said he was happy with the Cardinals' offensive pressure, especially in the first period.

"We were moving the puck in the first period, we want to come out of our zone a little cleaner and a little quicker and gain momentum through the neutral ice," Resch said. "We did that in the first period and we got a lot of shots off it and scored three goals."

The Cardinals' forecheck was strong in the game, causing problems for Fergus Falls as they tried to move the puck towards the middle of the ice. Marciniak said the Cardinals have made a point this season to put pressure on teams while they control the puck in the defensive zone.

"It's been something we've been really focusing on, the first guy going hard and trying to create a turnover or something," he said. "Just kind of trying to create as many turnovers in their zone as we can and get some offense off of that."
