Alexandria long jumper competes in Hershey games

Alexandria’s Meg Shercliffe was one of only five Minnesota youth track and field athletes who competed in the Hershey’s Track and Field Games North America Final on August 2 in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

The competition took place at the Henry Hershey Field on the campus of Milton Hershey School. Shercliffe took 11th place out of 15 competitors in the long jump at the competition with a leap of 7’ 1.’’

Shercliffe was one of only five Minnesotans selected for the competition after she took first place in the long jump at a state meet on June 28 at Gustavus Adolphus College with a leap of 7’ 2-1/2.’’ She also took third in the 200 meter dash, sixth in the 100 meter dash and fourth as a part of a 4x400 relay team.

Shercliffe and the rest of the 500 North American final participants from Canada, the United States and Puerto Rico had the expenses of the trip paid for by The Hershey Company.
