Alexandria gymnasts roll past Morris Tigers

The Alexandria gymnastics team won its second meet in as many tries as the Cardinals cruised to a 130.05-112.5 win at Morris on Tuesday night.

Hannah Wendel won every event for the second straight time this season. The junior won the all-around with a score of 36.1. Wendel had her best performance on the vault with a 9.25. She put together a score of 9.2 on the bars, an 8.85 on the beam and an 8.8 on the floor.

She led a host of top finishers for Alexandria. The Cardinals dominated the vault, finishing with the top five scores. McKena Thoennes (8.45), Rachel Sjostrand (8.4), Anna Spanbauer (8.35) and Jana Roste (8.3) rounded out the top five behind Wendel.

Bria Schueler took second on the bars with a 7.6. Roste was right behind her with a 7.4 in third place and Jenna Kremer took fourth with a 7.2. Roste also took third on the beam with an 8.0 and Kremer was fourth with a 7.7.

Second place on the floor exercise went to Schueler with an 8.15. Thoennes took third in that event with a 7.95.

Alexandria’s next meet will be next Tuesday as the Cardinals travel to Little Falls to take on the Flyers at 6 p.m.
