Two more 7-0 victories for the Alexandria girls’ tennis team against Sartell and Moorhead have upped their win streak to eight matches.

Alexandria won their match against Moorhead at home on Monday evening and then repeated the score on Tuesday evening at home against Sartell-St. Stephen.

Head coach Dave Ronning said after Tuesday’s win that the team has used the same lineup for a majority of the recent win streak.

“We went with the same lineup we have used for the last four matches and the girls are playing well,” Ronning said.

The Cardinals are now 13-4 overall this season and 5-2 in the Central Lakes Conference.

The Cardinals tennis team did not lose a set in their 7-0 victory over Sartell-St. Stephen.

Although the Sartell-St. Stephen lineup is young right now, they could be competitive in the next few years.

“Sartell has some very young players in their lineup and will be a team to contend with in the near future, but for now they will have to experience some growing pains,” Ronning said.

The Cardinals received singles victories from Ellie Bergstrand (6-3, 6-0), Carly Snell (6-3, 6-2), Bria Schueler (6-0, 6-1) and Hannah Vickstrom (6-2, 6-0).

On the doubles side, Ronning said the three varsity teams are playing “very nice tennis” right now. He said Kim Wilkins and Kerri Wilkins played well on Tuesday in their 6-1, 6-0 win.

“Kim and Kerri were the sharpest of our doubles teams last night,” Ronning said. “They had their opponents on their heels the entire match and they keep their unbeaten record as a doubles team intact.”

Marissa Wheeler and Rachel Sjostrand won at first doubles (6-2, 6-2) and Abby Telander and Jenna Steffl picked up a victory a third doubles (6-2, 6-1).

Visiting Moorhead was unable to win more than three games in any individual set in a 7-0 Alexandria victory on Monday.

Ronning said the Cardinals are working to improve every match as the season progresses.

“We challenged the girls to go out and expand their games, to push themselves to raise their level of play and to aspire to attempt to add more to their games,” Ronning said. “The girls want to get better with every match and the only way to do that is to attempt to define their games in match situations.”

The Cardinals received singles victories from Bergstrand (6-1, 6-2), Snell (6-3, 6-2), Schueler (6-0, 6-1) and Vickstrom (6-2, 6-0).

At first doubles, Wheeler and Sjostrand only lost one game the entire match in a 6-1, 6-0 win. Kim Wilkins and Kerri Wilkins won at second doubles (6-2, 6-0) and Steffl and Telander won at third doubles (6-3, 6-2).
