An estimated 4,000 to 5,000 people attended the event, which was held from 5 to 8 p.m.

“It was far beyond our expectations,” said District 206 Superintendent Rick Lahn. “There was a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of smiling faces, many positive comments – it was a real testament to what a community can accomplish with a common vision.

“There was a lot of community pride shown by those who came,” he added. “They seemed to feel ‘this is my community, this is my high school, I had a part in accomplishing this task.’ They seemed incredibly proud to have a facility like this right here in our community.”

A dedication program held in the new performing arts center featured performances by the Rainbow Strings Orchestra, Jazz Combo, and Kari Norheim.

Lahn addressed attendees, along with School Board Chair Dean Anderson and AAHS Principal Chad Duwenhoegger.

Self-guided tours through the building and grounds were available, with staff members, administration, school board members and student ambassadors on hand throughout the school to answer questions.

Refreshments were served and attendees were able to take a commemorative key chain, which was made in the school’s new Design and Build lab.

“It was just a great event,” Lahn said. “In my 30 years of public education, this was one of the most fun, celebratory events I’ve been part of.”
