Both did so by finishing in the top two at the section meet last Wednesday in Rocori and wrapping up on Saturday in Thief River Falls.

In Rocori, Vogeler placed second in the long jump with a distance of 21-10 to earn a spot at state. Peck qualified for state by taking first place in the 300-meter hurdles on Saturday with a time of 39.48.

Head coach Mike Empting was proud of the efforts from these two state qualifying athletes and the others on the team who contributed to Alexandria’s fourth place team finish at the section competition.

“The boys all competed extremely well, and the coaches are very proud of the success and progress the team made this season,” Empting said.

Alexandria had two throwers who finished just one spot away from state qualification. Aaron Steidl placed third in the shot put finals in Rocori with a distance of 50-03.75. Colin Guetter also missed his chance to return to the state meet after finishing in third place in the discus with a toss of 153-06.00.

Aaron Runge also just missed qualification after taking third in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:32.51. Runge also took fourth in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 9:48.75.
