"We decided to make a drastic change in our lineup when we were unsuccessful in our first two attempts at the Sabres," said head coach Dave Ronning. "We put most of our firepower into our doubles lineup in hopes of sweeping the doubles and finding a singles win somewhere.

"We got that singles win from Carl Branch at fourth singles, where Carl started great with consistency and ball control, and continued to frustrate his opponent in straight set win.

"However, we were unable to back it up in our doubles lineup as all three went down hard," he added. "Brendan [Holm] and Mathias [Burban] lost a tough one in three sets. Our third doubles team of Jacob [Strand] and Payton [Grandgenett] never could get on track and lost 6-1 and 6-2.

"We had beaten the Sabres at first doubles just a week ago, and had close matches at second and third doubles, so we figured, with the changes and our usual second doubles team playing down to third doubles, it would be a lock," Ronning said. "But as the old saying goes, "That's why you play the game." Devin Crowe, Eric Branch and Nick Partington all played tough in the rest of the singles lineup, but the Sabres were just too talented and experienced for our guys."

All three of the losing singles spots fell in straight sets, while the second doubles team of Mark Kallevig and Levi Duwenhoegger dropped a three-set match.

"I am proud of the way our guys bought into the plan we had and we believe it was the right move," noted the coach. "We did have the Sabres on their heels for most of the match, and we put a big scare into them."
