Alex swimmers lose first meet to Brainerd

The season likely did not start as planned for the Alexandria boys swimming and diving team in a 133-55 loss against Brainerd on the road Thursday.

Brainerd picked up 11 of 12 firsts in the meet against the Cardinals, with Elliot Jacobson picking up the only victory for Alexandria in the 100-yard breaststroke. The Cardinals lost 12 seniors to graduation from last year, which included seven of the top 10 scorers. They will need to work hard to fill those spots and stay competitive in the Central Lakes Conference.

“We have a lot of holes and big shoes to fill,” head coach Mark Storhaug said. “Many from last year’s JV team are seeing varsity action this season. We are going to have to work hard to get in better condition and to polish the rough edges in a hurry to compete with the teams in the area.”

Alexandria also had second place finishes from Max Jacobson in the 50-yard freestyle, Brady Wolkow in diving and Mark Kallevig in the 100-yard butterfly.
