The Cardinals needed extra innings to pick up the victory over Maple Lake as Anna Lee drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

They added two runs in the first, one in the third and one in the fourth to lead 4-0 after six innings. But Maple Lake answered with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend the game into extra innings. Both teams were held scoreless in the eighth inning before Alexandria ended things in the ninth.

Taylor Ellingson pitched all nine innings of the game, allowing seven hits, four earned runs and picking up 11 strikeouts.

Ellingson also led the Cardinals’ offense by going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, three walks and two runs scored. Lee and Jana Roste each drove in an RBI.

The Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Brandon Valley, South Dakota.

Carly Dropik was the hero for the Cardinals as she ended the game by knocking in three runs with an inside-the-park home run. Brandon Valley led 4-2 heading into the seventh inning.

Bria Schueler picked up the win for the Cardinals after tossing two scoreless innings in relief of starting pitcher Kaila Dewanz. Brandon Valley scored four runs through five innings with Dewanz on the mound, although only one run was earned.

Dropik led the Cardinals’ offense in the game, going 2-for-4 with five RBIs and one run scored.

With the victories, Alexandria is now 7-5 overall this season.
