The Alexandria girls’ hockey team wrapped up its regular season on Monday night with a 3-0 loss to St. Cloud.

The Icebreakers have just one loss in the Central Lakes Conference as they improved to 10-1 on the season and 18-4-1 overall. St. Cloud scored two goals in the first to take a lead it never relinquished. The Cardinals applied more pressure in the second period but couldn’t find the net.

“These girls are working hard and they are going to get those bounces,” head coach Blair Hovel said. “We are hoping we get them in the sectional play.”

Alexandria finished the regular season 12-11-1 overall and 5-6 in the CLC.

Section seeding for the 6A Tournament was scheduled to be completed this past Wednesday. The playoffs start on Saturday, but the Cardinals will likely be the top seed in Section 6A and get a first-round bye.

The semifinals are set for next Tuesday, and the championship will be played next Friday at a neutral site. The Cardinals are trying to get back to the Class A state tournament for the second straight year.

“We have a whole week of practice to iron out some things,” Hovel said. “That’s what we’re looking to do in this next week.”
