Alex girls' soccer: Cathedral snaps 11-game win streak for Cards
The longest winning streak in program history came to an end for the Alexandria girls’ soccer team as Section 8A foe St. Cloud Cathedral won 2-0 on its home field on Tuesday night.
Ellie Engal proved to be the difference for the Crusaders (9-4-1) as she scored both goals for her team. The first came with just 54 seconds left in the opening half before she put the game away with four minutes left in the second half.
“The winning streak was great, but a loss can bring a renewed focus,” head coach Tom Roos said. “One step back is an opportunity to take two steps forward. Our regular season will wrap up with three final CLC games, despite already clinching the conference. Last night’s loss leaves a desire to finish strong and put an exclamation point on our unbeaten conference play this year.”
Alexandria couldn’t generate much offense against Cathedral. The Crusader’s Mo Schroeder needed just four saves to pick up the win, while Sarah Bruzek finished with six saves.
The loss dropped the Cardinals to 11-2 on the season and 7-1 against Section 8A opponents this year.
