Alex girls hockey moves to 2-0

The Alexandria girls' hockey team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 4-1 win over North Metro on Saturday night at the Runestone Community Center.

The Cardinals jumped out early with three goals in the opening period. Mari Wosepka got them going with a shorthanded goal off an assist from Hanah Hansen almost six minutes into the game. Micaela Swenson added a goal almost 10 minutes later off an assist from Lauren Niska. Nicole Bartels then gave her team all the momentum with a goal on a power play with an assist from Melissa Drown.

North Metro answered with its only goal of the night in the second period, but Hansen put the finishing touches on the win with a third-period goal off another assist from Drown.

Amy Jost got the win in net for Alexandria with 13 saves. The Cardinals dominated the pace of play all night, outshooting North Metro 44-14.
