Alex ArtWorks holds September's Third Thursday's Art Show
Alex ArtWorks Third Thursday's Art Show will be held Thursday, September 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Depot Express Restaurant in Alexandria.
This month's selected artists are Reba Bruzek, Linda Gaugert, Leanne Larson and Leila Mikkelson Preston. They will have their art on display until next month's event. All art exhibited is for sale, and a cash bar will be available.
Bruzak has been an Alexandria area artist for the past 25 years. She was an art major at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and later an apprentice under master sculptor Mustafa Naguib, where she learned classical figurative sculpture, anatomy, and bronze casting. Bruzak enjoys working with clay to sculpturally explore God's creation around her.
Some of the shows Bruzak has shown at include Edina Centennial Lakes Fall into the Arts Festival; Brookings, South Dakota Art Festival; Art Splash Festival of the Arts in Sioux City Iowa; Art in the Park in Alexandria; and 8th Street Art Fair in Fargo, North Dakota.
Larson was born and raised in rural coastal communities of Australia. She moved to the U.S. at age 18 and currently resides in Garfield with her husband and three children.
Recently, she graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris with a bachelor's degree in studio art. Her work is part of the permanent collection at the Briggs Library at the University of Minnesota, Morris.
Mikkelson Preston is a fiber artist. She grew up watching her mother sew, her father crochet and her grandmother weave rugs. She learned to knit while in college and was later introduced to weaving at Holden Village in Washington state.
A few years ago, she was introduced to the art of felting, which led her to learn flat wet felting, 3D needle felting and needle felting as a way to paint a picture on a wool canvas.
Gaugert has been painting since her teens but first became a serious artist in 2004, when she opened her studio and art gallery, Three Havens Artworks, on Highway 42 in Alexandria.
She paints in oils, acrylics and watercolor to produce landscapes, still lifes and portraits. She is best known for her commissioned home portraits, depicting many of the lake homes and cottages in the Alexandria Lakes area.
