ALDI grocery store plans to open in Alexandria
ALDI, a global supermarket chain based in Germany, plans to open a grocery store in Alexandria.
The Alexandria Building Department received the building permit application for the store last week.
Plans call for a 17,000 square foot building with a canopy that will be built south of 50th Avenue West, between Fleet Farm and Culver’s. The estimated cost of the project is $800,000.
ALDI says one way it’s able to offer low food prices is by keeping its carts in one place. Customers pay a quarter to use a cart and get it back when they return it.
In addition, ALDI only accepts cash, debit or EBT cards and asks customers to bring their own bags or purchase reusable bags at checkout.
