Aaseng is Cardinal swimming MVP
Alexandria's Kris Aaseng was named the swimming and diving team's MVP at the Cardinals' season-ending awards banquet recently.
Aaseng wrapped up a strong career by taking fourth in the 500 freestyle at the Class A state meet on March 2. He was the lone all-state swimmer for an Alexandria program that sent 11 individuals to the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Fellow senior Eric Moe was also honored by receiving the Coaches Award at the banquet. Juniors Brandon McCormick and Mark Kallevig rounded out the award winners by being named the most improved and the hardest worker, respectively.
The Cardinals used their depth to rise to the top in a lot of meets this season. They took second at the Maroon and Gold Invitational and first at both the True Team and MSHSL Section 5A meets. Alexandria will have a lot of talent to replace on this team after losing 60 percent of its points scored to graduation this spring.
