Aaron Gretz to return to Blue Anchors in 2014
Ohio State catcher Aaron Gretz will return for another season behind the plate for the Alexandria Blue Anchors in 2014.
Gretz is the first player the club has announced will return to the roster in the upcoming season. In 2013, Gretz finished with a .261 average in 161 at bats with five home runs and 22 RBIs for the Blue Anchors.
As an Apple Valley native, Gretz said he is ready for another summer playing baseball in Alexandria.
“I’m excited to have another summer to learn from Newmie about how to play the game the right way and to learn what it takes to win a Northwoods League championship,” Gretz said in a news release. “Playing baseball in Minnesota gives me extra pride because that’s where I grew up, and I know how much baseball is loved in the state of Minnesota.”
Gretz provides more than just offense for the Blue Anchors. He was named the Rawlings “Finest in the Field” recipient at the catcher position in 2013. The Finest in the Field award recognizes the top fielders at each position in the Northwoods League.
“Aaron is a quality catch and throw guy, and he has the ability to call a quality game,” Blue Anchors manager Al Newman said in a release. “We look for him to be solid behind the plate and a contributor on offense for us this upcoming summer.”
More player announcements from the Blue Anchors’ front office are expected in the upcoming weeks.
