AAAA: Your community theater
This is an exciting time for the Alexandria Area Arts Association (AAAA)! For more than 40 years, the AAAA has brought quality performing arts to the Alexandria community.
We are proud that the theater has grown in participation and attendance, and we look forward to expanding our reach over the next 40 years!
Did you know the AAAA Theatre's first performances were held at Jefferson High School, performed with a full orchestra and no microphones? Look how far we've come!
1967 - The Alexandria Area Chorus and Orchestra was formed, and produced two musical performances each year at Jefferson High School.
1970 - Programming expanded to include a fall musical, which is a tradition we continue to date. The first musical was Oklahoma.
1972 - The organization's name was changed to the Alexandria Area Arts Association (AAAA).
1975 - The AAAA became a non-profit organization. The musical that year was Fiddler on the Roof.
1990 - Purchased the downtown building at 618 Broadway Street.
2008 - Completed "Operation Renovation" project with a new brick façade, doors and windows, security and fire alarm system, dressing rooms, back stage restroom and leveled and resurfaced stage.
2010 - Awarded an arts legacy grant from the Lake Region Arts Council to install a new digital sound system.
2011 - Plans made to install load in/load out dock in back of theater, thanks to fundraising efforts and regional grants.
2011 - Plans to hire first executive director.
The mission of the AAAA is to foster appreciation, understanding and love of the performing arts by providing experiences that entertain, educate and enrich the life of our community.
Our upcoming season shares theater for all types of audiences. Music and magic, fantasy, adult drama and comedy will take the stage throughout 2011-2012.
We're excited to have local and regional actors and technical crews share their talents with us!
