5A baseball: Streaks reach final four
The Osakis baseball team bounced back from a loss in the subsection championship to keep its season alive with a 10-2 win over East Central on Monday night.
The Silverstreaks put pressure on the Eagles' defense and took advantage of East Central mistakes all night. They scored two runs in the top of the second that were aided by three Eagle errors.
Osakis answered again in the third with four more runs to create some breathing room. East Central committed two more errors and had four wild pitches in the inning. Colter Fortenberry got the lone hit in the frame for the Silverstreaks.
That was more than enough offense for starter Devin Waldvogel. The lefty tossed six innings to pick up the win for Osakis. He scattered four hits and four walks to hold the Eagles to just two runs. Fortenberry came on and threw a scoreless seventh inning to close things out.
Seniors Dominic Baker and Tony Roggenbuck led the charge on offense. Both finished with two hits and a run scored. Fortenberry, Anderson and Waldvogel all added a hit apiece.
The win extended the Silverstreaks' season and set a record at Osakis for the best win-loss record in a single season. The Silverstreaks moved to 17-3-1 with the victory. That eclipsed the 17-5 record that they set in 1997.
It also set up a match-up with Ogilvie for the opportunity to advance to the section finals against Eden Valley-Watkins. The game versus Ogilvie was rained out on Tuesday night and rescheduled for this past Wednesday in Pierz. The winner of that game advanced to a rematch with Eden Valley-Watkins with a trip to the state title on the line. The section finals were scheduled for last night, Thursday, in Pierz.
