55+ driver improvement courses offered
The Minnesota Highway Safety Center will offer some upcoming eight-hour first-time and four-hour refresher 55+ Driver Improvement classes.
The following eight-hour first-time courses will be held:
Tuesday and Wednesday, October 22-23, 6 to 10 p.m., Parkers Prairie High School.
Saturday, November 2, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Grand Arbor, Alexandria.
A four-hour refresher course will be held:
Wednesday, October 30, 6 to 10 p.m., Parkers Prairie High School.
The fee is $20 for the four-hour refresher course and $24 for the eight-hour first-time course.
The courses are open to the public. Pre-registration is required. The instructor is certified by the Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center.
Participants will receive information on driver safety, new laws and vehicle technology.
Persons age 55 or older who complete the course qualify for a 10 percent discount on auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law.
First-time participants must complete an initial eight hours of training and a four hour refresher class every three years to maintain the discount.
