$25,500 grant awarded to Douglas County Traveling Tree House
The Traveling Tree House, a mobile learning center for children in Douglas County, was recently selected by Walmart to receive a $25,500 grant.
The former Head Start bus, transformed into a learning center on wheels, is a program funded by United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties that provides hands-on learning opportunities to children in pre-K to 3rd grade throughout the summer months at area parks.
Staffed by Early Childhood Education professionals, the 10-week program travels to six local communities, offering educational opportunities and fostering the love of reading. With this grant, expansion to five additional communities will be made possible, and a nutritious boxed lunch will be provided to each attendee.
Additionally, the grant will allow for greater ability to provide programming materials that support early learning and literacy. Watch for the programming schedule in the spring to learn where the Traveling Tree House will stop.
