19-year-old man killed in crash on I-94 near Alexandria
A 19-year-old man was killed in a rollover crash around 2 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 94 east of Alexandria.
Landon Lien of Carlos was killed after the vehicle he was in attempted to pass a semi-truck on westbound I-94, sideswiped it and rolled into the median near milepost 109, according to a release by the Minnesota State Patrol.
Lien was not wearing his seat belt, and it is unknown whether there was alcohol in his system, the patrol said.
Investigators did find an undisclosed amount of alcohol in the system of Jacob Dale, 18, of Alexandria, who was in the same vehicle as Lien.
Dale, who was wearing his seat belt, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Cloud Hospital. It was not yet known which of the two was driving the vehicle, the patrol said.
The semi driver, Chad Cave, 40, of Mandan, N.D., suffered no apparent injuries, the patrol said. There was no alcohol in his system, the patrol said.
Roads were wet at the time of the crash, the patrol said. The crash remains under investigation.
