125 new jobs coming to Alexandria
Get ready for a job surge in the Alexandria area.
Doherty Staffing Solutions, a Minnesota-based employment agency, will be interviewing, training, and hiring at least 125 customer service representatives in August and September to handle inbound calls for Doherty's client, Bluestem Brands, Inc.
Bluestem owns the popular online shopping catalogs Fingerhut and Gettington, and has contracted with Doherty to find individuals in the Alexandria area and surrounding communities who can provide off-site phone and computer support to customers from their homes.
Doherty's Customer Contact Solutions division was launched in 2012 to serve the call center industry in metropolitan and Greater Minnesota.
Its recent hiring project for Bluestem Brands highlights a rapidly-growing trend of work-at-home customer contact representatives.
"The work-at-home model was not considered a viable option for most companies until recently," said Director Eric Berg. "The recession forced organizations to look for ways to manage overhead costs while keeping up with customers' demands"
Once considered difficult to manage and easy to abuse, the work-from-home model has been studied intensely, especially by the call center industry, Berg said.
"Modern tracking and time-keeping tools now reduce the risk for both employers and employees, and the idea is taking off," he said. "We see it as a win-win solution for our clients and our candidates."
Representatives hired by Doherty to service the Bluestem account will be supplied with a computer and other equipment.
Workspace requirements, including Internet and phone access, are a condition of employment for at-home agent jobs.
The new positions require three weeks of paid training, scheduled in August and September at the Doherty office on Nokomis Street in Alexandria.
Job seekers interested in the at-home agent jobs are encouraged to contact a Doherty representative at (320) 763-3121 or apply online at www.dohertystaffing.com.
