Although it looked more like winter than spring, several area golfers found a way to beat Mother Nature and get a head start on spring at the Scott Dirck Golf Academy in Alexandria Friday afternoon.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity,” said Brandon Strouth of Alexandria, who was practicing hitting balls from a heated bay out into a snow covered driving range.

According to instructor Sam Christiansen, the reluctance of winter weather to leave has meant a lot of business for the academy.

“It’s been our craziest spring,” he said.
