The Legacy of the Lakes Museum in Alexandria will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of Smithsonian magazine's 12th annual Museum Day Live!

On Museum Day Live!, participating museums across the U.S. emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution's Washington, D.C.-based facilities, which offer free admission every day, by opening their doors for free.

Bruce Olson, museum executive director, said, "This gives an opportunity for people to connect and have an experience with us, who would just drive by on a normal day."

Legacy of the Lakes Museum's current exhibits include Fish: Inside Out, featuring X-rays of fish, complemented by local artist Becky Albright's Gyotaku art prints.

The museum is also hosting Dreamboats, which features five historical wooden boats on loan from collector Lee Anderson of Nisswa.
