Lake Carlos State Park offers night hike and candle making activities

Lake Carlos State Park near Alexandria invites the public to attend two special events.

A night hike will be held Friday, October 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Beeswax candle making will be held Saturday, December 7 at 10 a.m.

EXPLORE THE NIGHT: NIGHT HIKE The darkness represents a new and often scary place for many people. In fact, very few humans purposefully go out at night, explore or play games, but the darkness can be a lot of fun, according to Lake Carlos State Park personnel.

As night falls in the park, animals that only venture out in the darkness, unless otherwise disturbed, make their way out to scout their territory and find food.

The public is invited to attend and learn about the adaptations those animals have.

Wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather, as attendees will take a hike on one of the park’s many trails.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the visitor center.

BEESWAX CANDLE MAKING The public is invited to learn the art of candle dipping. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn the brief history and make a set of candles to take home at the end of the program.

Pre-registration is required by Saturday, November 30. The class is limited to 15 people.

The park entrance is located 10 miles north of Alexandria on State Highway 29, then two miles west on Highway 38.

To register or for more information, call the park at (320) 852-7200.
