Widseth Smith Nolting, Architecture One merge

The engineering and architectural firm Widseth Smith Nolting (WSN) has acquired Architecture One of Brainerd. The firms officially joined together January 6.

Architecture One has offered planning and design services on a wide variety of projects throughout Minnesota since it was founded in 1978 by Jeff Behr, Bob Ogdahl and Roy Abbott.

Behr, along with architect Doug Archer, who joined the firm in 1984, have become members of WSN’s staff in its Baxter office.

Over the past 36 years, Architecture One has contributed to many fixtures of the Brainerd area, including St. Joseph’s Medical Center, the Brainerd Family YMCA addition and remodel, the Brainerd Public Library and numerous projects for Central Lakes College.

With the addition of Architecture One’s portfolio and staff, WSN continues to expand its design practice.

Regarding the merger, WSN’s president Kevin Donnay said, “This is a great opportunity for everyone involved. With the Brainerd area experiencing considerable growth, it’s important for us to strengthen our capabilities to serve an ever-expanding pool of clients. Taking on the staff from Architecture One will broaden our expertise and serve as a stepping stone to further growth. We’re intrigued by the possibilities for the future.”

Behr added, “We’re very excited about joining WSN. We have worked with the professionals at WSN for many years, and we share similar philosophies in how we address clients’ needs and craft solutions for them, so merging was a natural evolution for both our firms.”

WSN is a multi-disciplined firm of more than 180 employees providing engineering, architecture, land surveying and environmental services. Its offices are located in Brainerd, Alexandria, Bemidji, Crookston, East Grand Forks, Red Wing, Rochester and Grand Forks, North Dakota.
