Former editor Al Edenloff was named the News and Opinion Page editor. He, too, is a long-time employee, having worked for Alexandria newspapers for 30 years.

Bitzan will plan, coordinate and direct newsroom activities and employees who assist in selecting and preparing articles for the Echo Press, Osakis Review and Chicz Magazine, as well as all special sections and newspaper websites.

Bitzan’s many civic awards and accomplishments include being selected Alexandria Business and Professional Woman of the year in 2002. She recently graduated from the Forum Communications Forum Forward program, a leadership training program aimed at recognizing excellence in performance and leadership potential. She is active in a variety of civic organizations.

She most recently served as Life and Special Projects editor for the Echo Press.

The restructuring will allow Edenloff to concentrate on news and opinion writing. He is a past winner of the prestigious Herman Roe Editorial Writing Award, presented annually to the writer of the best editorial of the year as part of the Minnesota Better Newspaper Contest.

“Al is widely respected for his thoughtful editorials by newspersons throughout the state,” Hanson said.

Hanson said that the changes renew the newspaper’s commitment to a strong newsroom.

“Our goal is to give our community the best local news possible, reported with integrity and respect,” she said.

Bitzan and her husband, Dennis, are lifelong residents of Douglas County.

Edenloff grew up in Parkers Prairie and lives in Alexandria with his wife, Celeste.
