• The law office of Thornton, Reif, Dolan, Bowen & Klecker, P.A. of Alexandria has been awarded an Advocacy Achievement Award for the Seventh District Bar Association by Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota for its work as Judicare and pro bono attorneys on behalf of the poor. Legal Services provides civil legal aid to low-income residents in northwestern Minnesota. Each year, it honors one attorney or firm from each of four districts in northwestern Minnesota. "Thornton Law has a longstanding commitment to pro bono services to the region," Legal Services Executive Director Anne Hoefgen said. "The breadth and depth of this commitment cannot be overstated. The culture of giving back to the community is unmatched." The Thornton Law Office first opened in 1914.
• GrandStay Hospitality, LLC, the franchisor for GrandStay Hotels, presented the GrandStay Hotel & Suites Parkers Prairie with the 2017 Every Guest-Every Time Customer Service award at a St. Paul conference April 24-25. The award recognizes consistent high scores in guest surveys and through the brand quality assurance evaluations. "We are extremely proud of all that has been accomplished at the Parkers Prairie location. They strive every day to make the hotel feel like home to each and every guest that stays there," said franchisor President Jon Kennedy.
• Heartland Security has hired Matt Eggert as regional sales representative covering the central and western Minnesota area. "Matt is a quick learner and exceptional salesman," Heartland Security's general manager, Guy Adams, said. "We're excited to have him join our team." Heartland Security was created in 1999 by nine electric cooperatives in Minnesota and Iowa. It is now owned by 13 electric cooperatives and has more than 8,000 customers. Its smart security system allows customers to control their lights, locks, garage door and thermostat from a smartphone app.
• Edina Realty announced that Gail "G.G." Freitag has joined its Alexandria location. Freitag has extensive sales and marketing experience, including working for the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce as member relations manager, Blue Anchors baseball team as sales and marketing director, as well as being an independent sales consultant for Tastefully Simple.
