Alexandria residents Kevin and Connie Lee Cunningham, who head the Alexandria Community Radio Educational Organization, Inc., have spent the last year getting a new radio station up and running in the Alexandria area.

KLKX 98.5 FM "K-LAKES," a commercial-free broadcast station where it's "always 98.5 and sunny," was designed to not compete with other local stations. The Cunninghams fund the station 100 percent on their own.

K-LAKES plays a wide variety of pop adult standards, which is a blend of singers like Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Dean Martin mixed with new pop adult entertainers such as Harry Connick Jr., Linda Ronstadt, Rod Stewart and Michael Bublé.

It also features hourly local weather updates and official emergency alerts.

In addition, K-LAKES offers free community calendar announcements to all nonprofit groups and organizations throughout the Alexandria lakes area. To submit an announcement, email info@klakes.com.

"This is our way of giving back and saying thanks to our community of Alexandria for everything and all of the support that they have always given to Connie and me," Kevin said.
