Announcing extension intern positions
Are you a college student seeking your bachelor's degree and looking for a summer 2017 internship? The University of Minnesota Extension is offering three separate paid internships in the areas of agriculture and/or horticulture in Meeker, Douglas and another one serving Stearns, Benton and Morrison counties.
These internships will provide exposure to Minnesota agriculture/horticulture through local operations, educational programs, on-farm applied research, communications and program development.
Each internship is a paid three-month educational opportunity starting May 22 through Aug. 18. Upon being selected, the intern will go through orientation and will work 30-40 hours per week from May through August, including some nights and weekends.
The University of Minnesota Extension in Douglas County is seeking an individual that has a strong interest in and working knowledge of Minnesota horticulture, has proven communication skills, and has the ability to work independently when needed. This intern will be based out of the Douglas County Extension Office in Alexandria.
Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to, writing news releases and program/event promotional materials; researching and answering select technical service inquiries; assisting with program or event management including set-up, tear down and management of field days or other events; managing registration and food service if needed; corresponding with speakers, consumers and other Extension educators as needed; and assisting with local needs assessment project.
The intern will also assist with managing/developing social media accounts, assist with educational program development such as writing content information or displays, and creating videos.
Finally, the intern will work as part of the local office team and assist with county fair and other ag-related events during the summer.
