Heartland Orthopedics hits milestone
Sheila Nilson recently became the 5,000th Joint Replacement Center patient of Heartland Orthopedic Specialists and Alomere Health since September 2008.
The landmark surgery was coordinated by the Alomere Health Joint Replacement Center and the Joint Camp program at 111 17th Ave. E., Alexandria.
Created in partnership with Heartland to shorten patients' hospital stays and improve the quality of their care, the center said it averages more than 600 joint replacements per year while maintaining a 99.5 percent patient satisfaction rate.
Nilson, the 5,000th patient in the program, traveled from Burtrum in Todd County with her husband, Randy, to have her left knee replaced by Heartland orthopedic surgeon Dr. Paul Dale under the advisement of her primary care provider.
"I heard such wonderful things about the program," Nilson said of the JRC. "The staff has been phenomenal and very nice."
On the day of her surgery, she was one of eight patients who had a joint replacement and went through the Joint Camp program.
Alomere Health presented all eight patients that day with celebratory recovery baskets and thank-you cards.
"This is a tremendous milestone for our Joint Replacement Center," said Mike Doyle, Heartland's administrative director.
Heartland Orthopedic Specialists has a primary location is in Alexandria, with outreach clinics in Willmar, Morris, Appleton, Graceville, Wadena and Fergus Falls.
