New life has been given to a longtime restaurant in Rose City, which is set to reopen as Rose City Bar and Grill on Thursday, Feb. 1.

The restaurant, previously known as Sheila's Place, is located about 20 miles northeast of Alexandria.

New owner Yvette Hanson says remodeling work is moving along quickly. New flooring has been installed, as has new kitchen equipment.

"We swapped out the grill and put a flat top in, because at some point we are interested in doing breakfast," she said. "We also added some more kitchen equipment to be able to handle the crowd a little better."

Hanson's sister, Nicolette Warren, and nephew, Jason Ehmes, are also co-owners. Hanson and Warren both have previous restaurant experience.

"My sister and I both have 17 years of experience working at different bars and kitchens, and we decided it was time to try it for ourselves," Hanson said.

The restaurant will serve food such as homemade pizza and burgers. There will also be specials each night of the week.

Pull tabs will be available, and there will be bingo nights and meat raffles.

Kitchen hours will be Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Bar hours will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
