• The Village Family Service Center, a behavior health service with an office in Alexandria and 14 other locations in Minnesota and North Dakota, has renewed its national accreditation through the New York-based Council on Accreditation. The Village provides counseling, addiction treatment, in-home family therapy, mentoring, financial counseling, and adoption services. "We are pleased to have received this confirmation of the quality of the services that we provide every day," said The Village's president and CEO Doug Vang. The Village has been serving kids and families since 1891.
• Glenwood State Bank President Peter Nelson has been named the central region's 2017 Community Banker of the Year by the Independent Community Bankers of America organization, which represents more than 5,700 community banks. The central region includes the midwestern states and Texas. Glenwood State Bank's assets have nearly tripled under Nelson's direction, and in 2017 it was listed in the top 100 places to work in Minnesota. His other activities include co-founding a local Habitat for Humanity chapter, creating a Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter and traveling to the Dominican Republic to deliver supplies and help build a school. Nelson will be featured in the December issue of Independent Banker, the organization's monthly publication, and recognized in 2018 at its national convention in Las Vegas.
