Operation Round Up grants awarded
A new round of Runestone Electric Association's (REA) Operation Round Up has awarded grants totaling $16,950 to 34 area organizations. The following organizations received a grant:
Fire Departments — First Responders: Ashby Fire Department, $500.
Youth: Minnewaska Area Post Prom, $200; Discovery Days Preschool, $250; Alexandria Area High School Trap Booster Club, $250; Brandon-Evansville Summer Rec, $400; Runestone Off-Road ATV Riders, $300; Morris Area Post Prom, $200; Minnewaska Area Clay Target Association, $200; WCA Secondary Playground, $500; and Alexandria Youth Trap League, $300.
Community: Alexandria Technical and Community College Foundation, $1,000; Hoffman Economic Development Authority, $400; Stevens County Relay for Life, $200; OSTML Quilters, $200; Kensington Legion Post 268, $500; Sewing Committee, $200; Pope County Humane Society, $500; Pope County Relay for Life/Team: Minnewaska School District, $200; St. Luke's Cemetery Association, $250; Senior Mission Quilters, $200; Starbuck Depot and Museum, $500; Garfield Community Club, $200; Pleasant Valley Cemetery Association, $250; Shalom Lutheran Church WELCA, $250; Elk Lake Beach and Lifeguard, $300; Pleasant Mount Cemetery, $250; The Village Family Service Center, $500; Area Transplant Support Group, $500; Honoring Choices, $300; and Van Loon Cemetery Association, $250.
Seniors: Elder Network, $1,000; Douglas County TRIAD, $500; and Minnewaska Lutheran Home, $500.
Scholarships: The following schools received a $600 scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior with a parent or guardian who is an REA member and good academic record: Alexandria Area High School; Brandon-Evansville High School; Chokio-Alberta School; Long Prairie Grey Eagle High School; Minnewaska Area High School; Morris Area High School; New Testament Christian School; Osakis High School; Parkers Prairie High School and West Central High School.
Area organizations are encouraged to apply for Operation Round Up grants. The deadline for the next round of funding is Monday, Aug. 15.
