REA Operation Round Up grants awarded

Runestone Electric Association’s (REA) Operation Round Up has distributed more than $715,000 in grants to community-minded organizations in the cooperative’s service territory since its inception in 2003.

More than 65 percent of REA’s members allow their bills to be rounded up to the next dollar. Area organizations are encouraged to apply for grants. Deadline for the next round of funding is Friday, August 14. Applications are available by calling (320) 762-1121 or 1-800-473-1722; they can also be downloaded at www.

REA serves more than 13,900 members in Douglas, Pope, Grant, Stevens, Otter Tail, Stearns and Todd counties.


The following organizations shared $11,300 in grants from Operation Round Up:

Fire Departments/First Responders: Osakis First Responders ($750), Garfield First Responders ($500), Hoffman Fire Department ($500).

Youth: New Testament Christian School ($100), Northern Lights Council, BSA ($300), Zion Lutheran School ($250), Alexandria High School Trap Booster Club ($300), Herman Norcross FCCLA ($250), Brandon/Evansville Summer Rec ($300), Osakis Boy Scouts ($250), Kensington Area After School Program ($250).

Community: Minnewaska Community Health Services ($1,000), Forada Days, Inc. ($200), Douglas County Sheriff’s Posse ($500), Habitat for Humanity – Prairie Lakes ($500), Spruce Hill Foundation ($300), His Kids Orphan Ministry ($500), Nora Lutheran Stewardship ($300), Pope County Humane Society ($500), Area Transplant Group/Life Source ($500), Grant County Humane Society ($500), Lutheran Social Service ($500), Love INC of Douglas County ($750).

Seniors: Evansville Senior Citizens ($500) and Let’s Go Fishing Alexandria Lakes Area Chapter.

Scholarships: The following schools received a $600 scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior with a parent or guardian who is a REA member and good academic record: Alexandria Area High School, Ashby High School, Brandon-Evansville High School, Eagle Valley Public School, Hancock High School, Herman Community School, Minnewaska High School, Morris Area High School, New Testament Christian School, Osakis High School, Parkers Prairie High School, West Central High School.
