Echo Press sports team has new reporter

Blaze Fugina has joined the Echo Press and Osakis Review sports team as the new sports reporter.

Fugina started covering local sporting events in July. His coverage area includes Osakis, Alexandria and the surrounding communities in Douglas County.

"Alexandria and Douglas County have some nice people and it's very scenic with all the area lakes," Fugina said.

Fugina moved to Alexandria from Minneapolis where he was community editor at The Laker. Prior to that he was editor of the Madelia Times Messenger in Madelia.

A 2007 graduate of Andover High School, Fugina went on to study journalism at University of Wisconsin River Falls where he earned a bachelor of science degree in 2011.

In his spare time, Fugina trains for cross-country skiing and socializes with friends. He is a self-described Minnesota sports fan.

"I am excited to focus more on sports coverage with my new job at the Echo Press," Fugina said.
