Better Business Bureau launches service to protect online shoppers

The Better Business Bureau has partnered with Azigo, a leader in user-centric technologies, to launch a new online search tool designed to help consumers find businesses they can trust when they research and shop online.

The BBB's Accredited Business Locator is powered by Azigo's free, downloadable browser plug-in and displays the "BBB Accredited Business" seal whenever consumers search for products or services using popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and Bing.

This seal indicates that a business is reputable and offers one-click access to the BBB report for that business. This provides maximum consumer protection and minimizes the risk of online fraud.

"Consumers rely on the BBB seal to help them quickly and easily identify trustworthy businesses, and the new Accredited Business Locator makes it even easier for shoppers to find businesses they can trust online," said Dana Badgerow, president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota. "With more than $150 billion being spent online this year, we see our partnership with Azigo as a distinct way to help bring our advice and services directly to consumers at the point in time when they need help the most."

More than 350,000 businesses across North America have earned BBB accreditation and agreed to uphold BBB Standards for Trust, which include honoring promises and resolving marketplace disputes with customers. By partnering with Azigo, the BBB says it can more easily deliver the most up-to-date information.

The mission of the Better Business Bureau is to promote, through self-regulation, the highest standards of business ethics and conduct; and to instill confidence in responsible businesses through programs of education and action that inform, protect and assist the general public.
