The Alexandria Fire Department had to climb the entire staircase at Viking Towers, go back down, and climb about two-thirds of the way back up to reach 343 steps in tribute to the fallen firefighters in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Once they completed their moment of silence and a prayer on the last step, they finished the climb that the lost firefighters could not complete that day. (Lowell Anderson | Echo Press)
